BOROBUDUR TEMPLE
Questo famoso tempio buddista, risalente all'VIII e al IX secolo, si trova nel centro di Giava. Fu costruito su tre livelli: una base piramidale con cinque terrazze quadrate concentriche, il tronco di un cono con tre piattaforme circolari e, in cima, uno stupa monumentale. Le pareti e le balaustre sono decorate con pregevoli bassorilievi, che coprono una superficie totale di 2.500 m2. Intorno alle piattaforme circolari vi sono 72 stupa traforati, ciascuno contenente una statua del Buddha.
